He sat in a dim office. Bordom was eteched on his face as he looked thru papers. Most were applications, others were bills. With a sigh he tossed those aside to read what the paper held for news. He flipped it over to examine the front page before dropping the paper in shock.
The headlines read that monster insects were running wild in the city. He knew about this all too well. This was the main reason why he demanded an escort when going out side. He was never alone if it ment he may run into these savage creatures. And now that there was more of them, he had reasons to panic more.
He adjusted his glasses as he stood up, flipping the paper over so that it would block the headline from his sight. He gathered his paper work and stepped out, calling for his normal escort to follow him. They both stepped outside as Basil looked around nervously. If there was a massive outbreak, he was going to have to find a way to keep himself safe, just incase he did end up alone.

The streets were abandoned, eerily so. A thick mist hovering just a few feet above and below her head, making it no easier feat to find her way back to the house.
'Bloody hell" She muttering through clattering teeth, rubbing her palms to rid them from the cold, huddling deeper into her coat.
"Bloody cold..." There was barely any noise except for the sharp tap-tap-tap of her shoes on the cobblestones.
Somehow, tonight seemed more macabre, even at the busy market, where people hushed and buzzed about excitedly, there had been a hush, a frightening feeling of anticipation. Looks were being exchanged, women and men were shifty-eyed, their gait a inch from running.
She'd seen the papers, and yet couldn't bring herself to care that these people were scared of the same critters that littered the attic and guest rooms in her house.
And yet...
The atmosphere was very tangible, the cold bite of fear, the hot rush of terror... She didn't like to admit she wished she had taken at least one of her guests along, even disguised, she wouldn't be alone in her anxiousness...
Siofra continued her way, now and then looking over her shoulder, almost certain she heard someone approach her.
She needed to get home. Quick.

She couldn't beleive it. She had arrived in Paris a week ago to have a wonderful life, only to find that everything she had come with had been stolen off the ship....including her money. Now she was trying to find someway to return home. Her only problem was that she didn't speak french....and she couldn't seem to find anyone who spoke a lick of english.
Serena was terrified, an American girl alone in Paris, a place beautiful, but nothing like her home. An Ocean away from anyone that could help her and no way to call for help.
She sniffled, partly from the cold, not to mention the off and on crying since she found she had nothing. It was cold, she was hungry and tired....and no idea what she was going to do. Her feet ached from walking, searching for any small glimmer of hope and she could no longer take it. With a defeated sigh, she plopped onto a small stone, practically giving up any hope of ever leaving this place.
Before she knew it, tears were falling from her eyes once again.Softly...she began to sing
" Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket....never let it fade away....." (can't recall all the song, but it's all I can come up with for the moment )

Basil walked by, hearing the music. He stopped, looking about until he found who it was comming from. He walked toward the female, standing and listening to her. He then spoke abruptly.
"You, where are you from?" He asked.

She jumped, having been so lost in thought that she hadn't heard anyone approach. With the back of her hand, she whiped her tears away before turning her eyes to look at him.
"I....I came here from America..."

He gave a small snort, his breath fogging in the cold air. "Let me guess. You cant get back and you need money to do so?" He asked, looking at his nails, unimpressed with this girl.
"I have the money...but you'll need to work for it. It's something I wont just give away. Interested?"

She didn't know this man and was a little wary of him. But, as he seemed to be the only person she had found that spoke english. She did need the money after all if she wanted to go home.
" What kind of work....?" she asked, pushing her hair back to look up at him.

He shifted thru a dignified looking pack before taking out a flyer for the location. "I need girls like you. The people around here go crazy for them. You can decline and spend the winter outside...or come with me and perform to gain some money and go home...your choice..."

She took the flyer, looking it over. The work he was offering seemed degrading and rather digusting. Barely dressed women parading around, dancing and singing, giving men a good time. The thought of doing such work was one that would never have entered her mind.
She handed the flyer back, standing up.
"I dont' have any other choice..."

He smirked. "Very well then. Come with me." He said. "You start tonight."

They thought they could cage him, that it was possible to subdue the monster that raged inside their metal prisons. They thought he was nothing more than a mutation, a freak of nature that needed exploiting. They took him for a stupid beast that knew nothing but his basic needs.
They had been sorely mistaken.
The creature laughed as he raced through back alleys, having proven them wrong at long last. humans... they never ceased to amuse him with their infinite stupidity.
They thought far to highly of themselves and their inventions... and that arrogance was exactly what cost them their lives tonight.
The enormous herculean beetle chuckled low and dark, fondly reminiscing about how wonderful it had felt to finally snap their tiny bodies in half. The blood curdling screams had been music to his ears; their body parts strewn along the circus tent, painting a gruesome picture that not even the chief of police could discern, (let alone stomach). yes, he had watched from a safe distance before speeding away to freedom.
Freedom....
Min slowed to a steady jog, gradually decreasing his pace until coming to a complete stop. He closed his eyes, tilting his head back and took in a deep breath; bringing the cool evening air into his lungs.
It felt glorious.
No longer would he be whipped or starved or humiliated for others amusement. All those people dead and torn into a million pieces, forever gone from his life. "I'm free...."
He opened his eyes to stare at the stars above, feeling content. that is... until loud jingling shattered his inner musings, bringing his attention back to the here and now.
Glancing at his 4 arms, he scowled to see the thick shackles still attached. He snarled, setting to work breaking through them as he had done with the dangling chains. He'd be completely rid of these things, he swore it! Just as he began to pry the first one off, a quick tap-tap-tap of shoes approaching.

The house!
Even through the foggy atmosphere she could never mistake the crooked chimney for any other one, besides, a bright orange jumper her aunt had knitted her made for an excellent flag.
Quickening her gait she kept her eyes fixed upon that chimney in the distance, she was still too far, but with her sanctuary in sight; nothing could stop her.
She thought. - clankclangclangclank-
A jangling, the sound of metal moving over a hard surface, sounded like gunshots in the silence this particular scary night had obtained. The sound was near, so very near, but she couldn't see anybody who would've made the noise on the street, a matter of fact.
She was completely alone.
-Clangclangclangclang-
The jangling noise came back, sending a tremble down her spine and goose-flesh to appear on her neck and arms, it was so frightening...
Speed-walking seemed a better way to close the distance between herself and her house, especially since she really did need to not be there-!
-Clanggagaglangagalanga- Jogging, she was jogging now, but the sound didn't stop, it got louder, closer.
Running, much better than jogging, she needed the exercise anyway, but it was more important to stay ahead of the fast approaching noise-
-Clangclankclangclankclangaggclangagaclanga-
Turning the corner, heels slipping but not completely losing their grip on the damp street, she flat out sprinted the last meters, she was in direct path to her house, she could see the small steps that led up to the door, read the welcome mat, nearly feel the warmth her fireplace would bring her-
-CLANGCLANGCLANGCLANK--
The sounds stopped altogether, and for a moment Siofra was filled with relief, joy even, as she raced towards the first steps, her hand already reaching into her purse for the large brass key that would gain her access into the safe haven-CLANK-

The tapping grew louder, drawing closer to his alley. Had they seen him? Was it the authorities come to drag him back... or worse?
Min hunkered down into the shadows (to the best of his abilities), a low rumble rattling deep within his chest. He flattened his enormous bulk against the wall, tightly clenching his fist's ready for what ever came for him. Let them try to take him alive, just TRY! They wouldn't live long enough to regret that action.
He would take as many of those bastards down with him before anyone laid so much as a finger on his hyde, and even then he would fight it tooth and nail until his last breath.
The feet drew closer. Min held his breath, ready. His upper lip curled, his eyes narrowed, waiting for the moment to kill.
A slender blur whizzed by and didn't stop.
The enormous insect lifted his head, releasing his breath. Apparently they HADN'T seen him, nor had they even been looking for him; or at least this person hadn't. That was good... though to be honest he wouldn't have minded ridding the world of one less parasite.
Standing to his full height, Min lumbered towards the alley's edge, poking his face around the corner. The female had been sprinting but now - after hearing his chains rattle and his heavy girth step forward - the woman was in a dead out run.
He smirked something wicked, glad to have put the fear of God into her.

The dark alleys were great way to stay out of sight, not many people dared to wonder in to the darker side streets and lanes since the Monster of Paris had appeared.
Which worked in his advantage, he rather not deal with those annoying soft-skinned humans?
Ignoring his body’s demands for food, the 7’ft tall dark red-brown ant stood up, his thin frame slightly unsteady as he moved through the dark and damp alley.
The long thin antennas on his head twitched, the scent and vibration of a much larger creature nearby caused him freeze for a moment in place.
Eyeing the end of the alley that on to the open streets, he debated between fleeing or finding out whom or what was source of the scent he smelt.
Grumbling to himself about the stupidity of his action he carefully moved to the mouth of ‘his’ alley, carefully peering around the corner, his green on black eyes looked around.
They widened as he spotted the source of the scent and vibrations across his Alley, the massive hulking form hidden there caused him to step back and hide further in the shadows.
Mentally cursing his luck Situs backed away hoping his luck would at least keep him off the giant’s radar.
